Manifesting determination and devotion to build a sustainable future, a subsidiary of TBS Energi Utama, Adimitra Baratama Nusantara (ABN) proudly achieved the 1st Runner-Up position in the Corporate Social Responsibility-Medium category of ASEAN Coal Awards 2023. Representing ABN, External Relation Manager, Bambang Takariyanto proudly received the prestigious award during the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) hosted at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center on August 25, 2023.
Organised biennially by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) as a regional commitment to promoting conscious practices within the coal sector, the ASEAN Coal Awards celebrates industry players with outstanding results to their CSR activations. Bringing forward a 14-years project titled “Towards a Better Society – Empowering Community with ABN” that was based on TBS Group’s Towards A Better Society 2030 (TBS2030) commitment and the existing Blueprint of Community Development and Empowerment Programme (Rencana Induk Program Pengembangan dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat), the achievement echoes Adimitra Baratama Nusantara’s unwavering dedication to uplift the communities it serves.
With over a decade of operations in Sanga-Sanga, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, ABN has developed strong, symbiotic relationships with its host communities, Kelurahan Pendingin and Kelurahan Jawa. The TBS2030 commitment further boosts this relationship, leading to the creation of community development programs to contribute to society empowerment. While TBS2030 has three main goals, ABN’s take on the initiative is stretched into four key focuses: education, livelihood, health and wellbeing, and environment.
The education commitment emphasises better access to education and training for the younger generation in host communities. Aiming to drive systemic and long-term impact through good education, ABN established the English for Young Learners (Edu Runner) Programme in 2016 dedicated to children, and the Training for Youths and Local Workers Programme which targets young adults. To facilitate further growth, ABN also offers higher degree scholarships under the ABN Scholarship Program for talented students from Kelurahan Pendingin and Kelurahan Jawa.
Not limited to the youth, ABN also provides the older generation with upskilling programmes designed to enhance their quality of living through employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Recognising the limited economic alternatives in the area, ABN created two flagship programmes outside of mining: UMKM Matahari in Kelurahan Pendingin and Cavendish Banana Cultivation for Kelurahan Jawa.
The importance of health and wellbeing extends beyond our workforce. ABN contributes to host communities’ health and wellbeing by launching the Bedah Rumah (House Renovation) program in 2019. To date, 88 houses have been renovated to follow our standard specification, with 35 now benefiting from electricity and clean water access.
Furthermore, ABN’s Environmental CSR Programme underscores its commitment to mitigating environmental impacts stemming from its business operations. Within ABN’s operational site, a 30-hectare multifunctional forest area filled with various flora and fauna named Bukit Kayu Arang has been built to serve various purposes, including conservation, greening, and education.
By effectively applying these four primary areas of focus, Adimitra Baratama Nusantara has managed to secure the 1st Runner-Up position in the Corporate Social Responsibility-Medium category of ASEAN Coal Awards 2023. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to those who have supported us throughout this remarkable journey. The award serves as a testament to Adimitra Baratama Nusantara’s commitment to sustainable practices and community welfare, and we are determined to build upon our track record of excellence in the years to come.
